I recently upgraded to a 27' Retina 5K iMac with a 3.5 Ghz i5 processor, and 24 Gbs of memory. I'm also running El Capitan OS 10.11.1. When I moved my 2TB external WD HD to the 27' iMac (using Yosemite) I noticed it was taking much longer for data to be accessed than when it was being used with my 21' iMac. The difference in lag time is quite noticeable. There was no difference when I moved to El Capitan.
I'm looking at replacing my WD HD with a new external HD. An Apple tech told me other people are saying their WD and Seagate HD's are running very slow with the the Retina 5K iMac. He suggested buying the AirPort Time Capsule, saying it works great and will not have lag time problems.

Still, I've read that WD and LaCie hard drives work really well with the iMac, and another Apple tech told me WD and LaCie HDs should work fine with my Retine 5K Imac. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any suggestions will be appreciated.
